Our beginning…
More than 30 years ago, a single act of kindness profoundly impacted Barbara Haramis and set the foundation for a lifelong mission. While visiting her sister in medical school, Barbara learned about a five-year-old boy undergoing treatment for leukemia. Day after day, he lay in his hospital bed alone, as his parents worked tirelessly to cover his medical expenses. His only visitors were doctors and compassionate nurses.
Barbara discovered that the boy's one wish was for a Nintendo Game Boy to help him pass the long, lonely hours. At that moment, she realized that while she couldn't cure his cancer, she could ease his journey by granting his simple wish. She purchased the Game Boy for him, bringing a spark of joy to his challenging days.
This small but powerful act became the spark for something much greater - the founding of the Childhood Leukemia Foundation. Driven by the desire to make treatment more bearable for children with cancer, Barbara's vision has grown into an enduring legacy of hope and support.
